I'm a sucker for my Sylvie. I've always let her "get a way with" more than any other dog I've lived with, and this last year hasn't been an exception. It's hard to believe that it was TWO years ago that I was flown to NJ to take photographs of this AWESOME litter of pups! I've had the pleasure of seeing them grow up and achieve many, many things! Despite loosing Dylan last week, I was fortunate to bring this little guy home out of a horrible situation not too far from my house. He's the smallest 6 month old boy I've seen, full of scars, who knows nothing of love or touch and has only ever known what it means to survive. I had the pleasure of working with J of Crescent Kennels again, to complete another ad of her gorgeous beach bummin', California dreamin' boy, Bravo! I met Bravo when he was 8 weeks old on a shoot in New Jersey at his wonderful breeders home (Grayhart Weimaraners). It's been fun to watch him grow and to help him "show off" through his ads.
Look for this ad in the dog publication "Show Site" where they are doing a special publication with some of the top show Weimaraners.
A trip to California and a beach shoot is in the plans for October- more info to come!

I had never been to Thistlethwaite Falls in Richmond, IN until a few Sunday's back, but I grew up in a place so similar- where we brought ourselves, took our time, and where all of our friends were found in a shared experience. In the summer, our lives revolved around crashing in a tent, greeting the dawn with cold barefoot feet as we raced across the grass, where we would plunge into the lake-- only to crawl out when the sun started to go down.

I haven't had time to devote to my blog or website as of late, but want to make it up to everyone (and myself). My goal is to revamp the blog, which I've actually tackled tonight while my poor pup, Sylvie, sleeps deeply next to my foot in a potassium bromide coma. I hope to post new photos, blips of the everyday, and things I find amusing from now on. I promise.

It's amazing to me how far a pup can come in one week! When I initially picked this girl up, she would do nothing but belly crawl and cower. Now, she's playing with Hendrix, eager to try new things, and fastly gaining confidence! She even enjoys playing in front of the camera :)

I saw this little girl get hit on a bridge I cross every day when I go to lunch. No one stopped to check on her and when I got to her, she just laid on the sidewalk. Turns out, she's fine and a very happy puppy. Of course, she didn't have a collar, chip, or anything to identify her and no one is coming to look for her. It's evident she hasn't had much positive anything in her life, as she slinks around and is very cautious and most likely hasn't been fed on a regular basis. Such a shame and so aggravating.

Remembering Olden.

It was around this time in 2009 that a friend and I went and got "Olden" out of his living situation. We had been keeping tabs on him since the summer before and were finally given the OK to go and get him out of his terrible living situation. He had been living behind an empty house, in this pen, his entire life. The owner, who was in and out of jail, visited him every few days to dump food in his bowl and to take him to the vet for his yearly shots. Other than that, it was a pretty desolate life for Olden. He was never let out of his pen, rarely fed, and I doubt ever had a kind word uttered in his direction. He was with me for a few months, just learning how to cope in the real world, then moved on to another foster home where he was spoiled beyond belief. Sadly, this world was too much for him and with heavy hearts, he was kindly and humanely let go. He had a wonderful few months where he was shown love and kindness, but around this time of year, the memory of him still chokes me up when I think of him and his life before we rescued him. I know that we can't rescue them all, and that some are just too far gone when we get to them, but...sometimes you just have to try to change a forgotten life.

Rest in peace, Olden.

I was working on WCA stuff the other evening and realized I hadn't seen two of my hooligans for a while. Vera was running like a banshee when she whipped into this point. I verbally told V to whoa, and had to use the collar on Neva because she just doesn't "get it" sometimes. It took me forever to find the bird, and I still can't take credit for the dumb thing taking off as I had no idea where it was.

It's time my dogs and fosters went to work. In an effort to keep up with my obsession with fostering Weims and Zig, the GSP, I'm offering up some of my favorite photographs of the individuals that make up my current "gang." Most of the photos are marked to cost the equivalent of a bag or two of dog food. All monies made go directly to the mouths of the fosters, or to their vet bills.

The Brittany Club had a great turnout for their yearly hunt test. Of course, I had to take my guys out afterwards, along with another Weim and his owner to run the field and "work" some birds.

On a whim, I planted some sunflower seeds in my front landscaping area. At first I didn't think they were going to take or bloom, but then all of the sudden they were 10 feet tall with huge, beautiful heads! I plan to put more out next year because they're so fun.

Since most of my tomatoes came from my aunts garden and came up voluntarily, I'm not sure of the variety. I do know though, that my aunt grows "pineapple tops" so this may be the case.

I was trying to take a photo of the tomato in my hand to show how big it was- but realized that, just beyond my lens, Vera thought I was getting ready to give it to her.

And of course, all the dogs were invited to the dinner. We ended up with 3 Weimaraners, 1 shorthair, 3 Welsh, 2 labs, 1 Clumber, and 1 Coyote.

Meet Rosie Coyote, a fifteen year old gal (soon to be sixteen!) who has always known what she has wanted in life. How does she do it? Well, according to her mum: "Rosie's recipe for a long happy life: eat small children for breakfast; slam yourself against the window and scream when you are in the car as it goes through the car wash; curl your lip at the cat but don't ever ever bite him; keep the Labradors in line; make humans feel special if you happen to like them; never, ever miss a road trip."

I love tough dogs, tough books, and projects that drain me but rejuvinate me in some way after the fact. Making dinner has never fallen into any of the above categories.
I want something simple, something healthy, and something that doesn't require me to think about it hours in advance. If I can get most of the ingredients from my garden, it's a bonus. How do I know what I want to eat at 9 AM? How do I know what I'll feel like after my sweet Sylvie has had a particularly bad seizure? I don't. And, I don't want to think about it too much when my body kindly reminds me that it needs a boost.
So, this is for everyone out there that has a garden this summer and has too many tomata's already and herb's o' plenty. Compliments (I think) of Martha Stewart, though the first step is just something I threw in.

- Find a good, but cheap wine and pour yourself a glass. I'm digging Smoking Loon's Pinot Noir right now.
- throw 1/4 cup olive oil in a bowl
-add 3 sliced and diced garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Toss in 1 pound cooked and drained pasta (I used whole grain)
Tear up 4 medium sized tomatoes (I used both red and a yellow from my neighbor)
add 1 pound burrata or mozzarella cheese; scatter over pasta.
Garnish with fresh basil from the garden (picked with help from the Weims) and sprinkle with pepper. Enjoy. Relax. Give that good dog a kiss on the head, and let her lick your plate when you're done.

The girls, my neighbor, and I had a mini adventure last Thursday. There was a lot of tree climbing , swimming, exploring, finding love notes, and swatting mosquitoes involved. I love this photo because everyone is doing their own thing.

I sent a note to CloudStar Cookie company introducing my pups and letting them know how much we LOVE their cookies. When I got home the other day, the girls all ran to a box on the porch and inside it was another box full of cookies and goodies! Nice! Needless to say, the pups approved of their "winnings!"
